Daytona Beach, Fla. -
Head coach Clifford Reed, Jr. is excited about the fact that five recruits have elected to become Wildcats on Thursday as the B-CU men's basketball program inked them to National Letters of Intent during the 2007-08 late signing period.
"We are ecstatic with the two signings of such high character, hard-working and well-accomplished players in Jerry Jones (Norland High School- Miami, Fla.) and Michael White (Presbyterian Day School - Macon, Ga.)."
The Wildcats have added three more high-character, well-rounded and accomplished players in Alexander Starling (Palm Beach Community College - Palm Beach, Fla.), Clifford "CJ" Reed (Atlantic High School - Port Orange, Fla.) and Alvin Pegues (Mott Community College/Thomas Jefferson High School - Brooklyn, N.Y.).
Jerry Jones; 6-2; Guard ... Jerry is simply a WINNER. His team won the class 6A Florida State Championship in 2008. On defense, he is a lock-down defender and offensively he has a good mid-range jump shot from 12 to 16 feet. He is a driver who finishes at the basket and a good passer! He has played for one of the most well-coached and best high school programs in the state. He averaged 11 points per game and 6 rebounds per game, 1.5 steals per game and four assists per game. He was named to Second Team All Dade, All Tournament Team at class 6A final four and named to the All Dade All Star Team.
Michael White; 6-7; Forward ... Mike is a lean, explosive athlete which is demonstrated by his 37-inch vertical leap. Defensively, he is a good defender who is relentless at rebounding the basketball. Offensively, he attacks the basket with an array of power moves to the basket and his full potential is still yet untapped. He averaged 22 points per game, 14 rebounds per game, three block shots and two steals. This led him to being named All-Region 3A First Team member. He played in the Georgia vs. South Carolina All-Star Game where he scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Finally, he was an All-Middle Georgia (Georgia High School Association) First Team Selection.
Alexander Starling; 6-6; Forward ... Alexander is a versatile junior college forward with three years of eligibility. He brings a year of junior college experience against some of the state's top players. Thus, he will provide an immediate impact. Defensively, he can guard perimeter players 20 feet from the basket, as well as defend a post player in the paint. Offensively, he can drive to the basket and score, hit the 12-17 foot jump shot and post-up. His senior year in high school, he was named First Team All-Dade, Second Team All State, First Team All-District and Killian High School Male Athlete of Year in Miami, Fla. He averaged 20.8 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists per game. Last year at Palm Beach Community College, he averaged four points and six rebounds a game.
Clifford "CJ" Reed; 6-3; Point Guard ... The son of head coach Clifford Reed, Jr. is a consummate floor general who is the foundation to the program as the quarterback on the floor, if you will. Offensively, he can create for others as well as get in the lane and score himself. He is adept at making the mid-range jump shot as he is at making the 20 foot three-point shot. Defensively, his versatility allows him to defend both shooting and point guard positions. Thus, his all-around prowess will enable him to play and contribute immediately. He led his 2006-2007 Atlantic High School (Port Orange, Fla.) team to the State Final Four as a junior in which he average 14 points per game, five assists per game and five rebounds a game and, as a result he was named to class 4-A (AAAA) All-State Third Team. During his senior year for the Sharks program, he led his team to the state playoffs only to be defeated in the second round, but during the season he averaged 21.3 points per game, six rebounds per game and five assists per game. Thus, he was named to the class 4-A (AAAA) All-State Second Team and Sentinel Player of The Year!
Alvin Pegues; 6-1; Point Guard ... Alvin is a veteran who has won back-to-back National Championships in Division II. His team collected a record of 70-5 the past two seasons. He's a WINNER who averaged nine points per game, five rebounds per game, five assists per game and five steals a game which led the country as a sophomore. Defense is his strength! He is a ball-hawking guard who sets the tone defensively. Offensively, he gets the ball to the players in a position to make plays. He adds plenty of leadership and experienced to a young point guard core.
