In their final non-conference tune-up before getting back into MEAC play on Saturday, the B-CU Wildcats beat Carver Bible College 87-52 Wednesday night at home in Moore Gymnasium.
It was the `Cats first home game at Moore Gym since December 2 and it took the "road warriors" (B-CU was 4-7 in 11 road games to open the season) about 13 minutes to get untracked on the new home wood floor. With seven minutes remaining in the first half, B-CU led 18-16 and were shooting only 7 of 21 (33%) in the opening stanza.
Over the final 7 minutes of the first half, the Wildcats went on an 18-7 run to end the first half up 36-23 over the Cougars (1-18). Alexander Starling and Mike White paced the first half B-CU scorers with 8 points each.
The Wildcats broke open the game in the second half and won going away 87-52. Also in double figure scoring was Kene Anusionwu and Tobias Mahone with 10 each.
"As we mature, we will learn to play hard with no let-up no matter what the name on the shirt or opponent. The really good programs compete, play hard, and execute every night. It is only natural to have a let-up (against a non-division I opponent). We played much better in the second half. With six players in double figures we did a good job tonight ," said B-CU CoachClifford Reed, Jr.
Saturday, 4 p.m. Hampton University, one of the MEAC pre-season favorites comes to Daytona Beach and Coach Reed is impressed with the Pirates. "We have our work cut out for us in the first conference game back, " said Reed. "They are very athletic and talented, they play well on the transistion and they rebound very well. We have to come out and match their intensity and take care of the basketball, defend and rebound."
The "White Out" game Saturday vs. Hampton at Moore Gymnasium, all B-CU fans are to wear white, starts at 4 p.m. following the 2 p.m. women's Hampton-B-CU matchup at 2 p.m.
