WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Bowling traveled to their second tournament of the 2009 fall season over the weekend, competing in the MEAC Southern Division Tournament hosted by Winston-Salem State University. The Lady Wildcats finished the tournament overall in third place, finishing with a Baker record of 2-3 and earning a 3-1 record in team play.
First up in Baker play, B-CU faced off with Norfolk State and falling 755-642. Next up, B-CU took on Florida A&M, 738-638. South Carolina State downed B-CU by just a single pin, as the Lady Bulldogs downed the Lady Wildcats 608-607. B-CU earned wins in its final two matches of Baker play, first defeating North Carolina A&T by a score of 646-601. The Lady Wildcats concluded the day with a win over tournament host Winston-Salem State, topping the Lady Rams 635-506. The Lady Wildcats finished Baker play with a total pinfall of 3168 pins and a record of 2-3 (1-3 MEAC).
In Team play, the Lady Wildcats fared much better, turning in higher scores once they got into the individual performances. B-CU picked up where they left off in Baker play, downing WSSU again by a score of 802-664. In the second game, B-CU downed NC A&T by a score of 822-697. The Lady Wildcats got back one game dropped in Baker play, taking on SCSU again and winning 798-686. The Lady Wildcats then narrowly fell to FAMU, losing 839-831. In the final team match for B-CU, NSU earned a strong victory of 906-821. B-CU finished Team play with a 3-2 record and a total pinfall of 4074.
Kimberly Roe got back into form and led the Lady Wildcats in both Baker and Team play. Roe finished Team play with a total pinfall of 976 pins, a tournament average of 195.2 ppg, and a tournament high of 212. She finished with the second highest score and average in the tournament behind Sarah Taylor of North Carolina A&T (1029 pins, 205.8 ppg).
Demara Marbra finished with a total pinfall of 835, an average of 167, and a high game of 217. Jazmin Sutherland recorded a total pinfall of 780, an average of 156, and a top score of 199. Chelsea Squillacote scored a total pinfall of 729, an average of 145.8, and a tournament high score of 180.
Bethune-Cookman finished the tournament in third place overall, collecting a record of 2-3 (1-3 MEAC) in Baker play, and a record of 3-2 (2-2 MEAC) in Team competition, in the team's first MEAC competition of the season.
