DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - As Bethune-Cookman Softball finished out the recent NCAA signing period, the Wildcats were pleased to take in two new players for the 2010-11 season. B-CU added a pitcher and infielder for the upcoming season.
B-CU Head Coach Chris Cochran is excited to have the newest Wildcats, as both come from excellent coaching and have good experience in travel ball. She looks for both to show their athleticism and leadership on the field next season.
Shanel Tolbert, hailing from Westchester High School in Los Angeles, Calif., will provide welcome depth as she is expected to pitch in addition to work in the infield.
"Shanel will provide an additional arm for our pitching staff," said Coach Cochran. "We will have two senior pitchers in Spring 2011 and Shanel will compliment both Allie and Chastity. She also plays middle infield and hits."
Kelsey Rodney adds another infielder/middle outfielder for depth and talent increase. The fielder from Patriot High School in Riverside, Calif. is expected to fit extremely well into the Wildcat system.
"Kelsey has experience playing both middle infield and outfield," noted Cochran, "and her versatility will give us a lot of options to work in with our returners."
Focused on this season, after finishing strong in 2009, the Wildcats open the 2010 season, Feb 12-14, as they head to the Jacksonville Softball Tournament to face off with Drexel, Jacksonville, UNC Greensboro, and Virginia Tech.
