FT. MYERS, Fla. - After a strong start to this weekend's FGCU Invitational, the Lady Wildcats ran up against extremely high-caliber competition in the final games of the tournament. After Saturday's loss to FGCU, B-CU headed into Sunday looking to face #13 ranked DePaul. Although defeated, the Lady Wildcats fared better and played a stronger game against DePaul today, losing 10-2 in five innings.

In the early innings, the Lady Wildcats held strong on defense. Although DePaul got hits in each inning, B-CU shut down the Blue Demons and kept them off the board. The Lady Wildcats caused DePaul to strand four runners on base in the first two innings, going scoreless in each.

The Lady Wildcats struck first in the top of the third inning, scoring twice, first on a Cesley Tafoya single up the middle that pushed Ashton Hinds across Home Plate. Later in the inning, Simone Ceasar claimed Home Plate for the score on a wild pitch. Although the Lady Wildcats broke the deadlock, going up 2-0, the Blue Demons responded, knotting up the score again at 2-2.

In the remaining innings, DePaul clamped back down on defense, holding B-CU scoreless for the remainder of the game, while getting hot offensively in the fourth and fifth innings, wrapping up the game and defeating the Lady Wildcats 10-2 in five innings.

Cesley Tafoya (.298) led offensively for Bethune-Cookman, collecting one hit, and getting an RBI with it. Simone Ceasar (.271) also got one hit and scored a run of her own. Ashton Hinds scored the other run for B-CU, after getting walked onto base.

Both Chastity Sanders and Allison Garcia played in today's game, with Garcia (2-6) finishing the game.

The loss makes B-CU's record in the tournament 2-3, and 4-11 on the season. The Lady Wildcats return to action later this week as they head to Orlando to take on Eastern Michigan at the University of Central Florida Softball Complex. That game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
