UMES scored the games final six points in the last 2:41 to beat Bethune-Cookman 62-56 Monday night in MEAC play.

C. J. Reed tied the game at 56-all with a reverse layup at the 2:41 mark.  Then with the shot clocking winding down, UMES' Hillary Haley hit a fall-a-way three-pointer to give the Hawks the lead for good 59-56 with 2:05 remaining.

B-CU had possessions to tie up the ball game and missed shots in the final two minutes and had to foul Maryland-Eastern Shore down the stretch. The Hawks (8-18, 6-6 MEAC) hit a driving layup and 1-3 FTs in the final minute to emerge with the win.

"We didn't have the energy and the passion from everybody that we need to play well," said Coach Cliff Reed of his Wildcats who are completing a two-week long road stretch. "We have hit a wall and and we didn't defend and rebound and play with passion."

Maryland-Eastern Shore led at halftime 37-29 and for the game hit 10-21 three-pointers and out-rebounded B-CU 41-28 in the ball game. The Hawks had balanced scoring with three players in double figures led by Josh Wright's 12 points (3-6 threes), Kevin White and Hillary Haley had 10 each.

"A point of emphasis was to rebound and to keep them off the glass as they hit the offensive boards as good as anybody in the MEAC - we didn't do it tonight. We are not playing as tough as we need to, not as energetic, not making plays that we need to make to be successful," Coach Reed said.

B-CU took the lead in the second half 52-51, with 8:11 to play on a lane jumper by freshman Javoris Bryant. The final eight minutes featured two small UMES leads and the game-tying score by Reed before the final two minutes and the Hawks out-scoring Cookman 6-0 down the stretch.

C. J. Reed scored a game-high 19 points (13 in the first half) and Alexander Starling scored 14 for the Wildcats. "C. J. makes us go and he is doubled and tripled a lot and he is working hard. And when he isn't making shots (5-21 vs. UMES), we struggle," said Coach Reed. "We need others to step up consistently and we haven't got that consistent play from everybody. We need everybody to understand their roles and contribute."

HOMECOMING GAME/HOMECOMING WEEKEND - SENIOR DAY SATURDAY AT MOORE GYM

It is homecoming weekend for former B-CU Alumni players with a reception Friday night, an alumni game Saturday at Moore Gym and a reception following Saturday's Senior Day vs. Hampton, 4 p.m. at Moore Gym.

It is also Senior Day game, Homecoming and the Pink Game supporting breast cancer research for the B-CU women's at 2 pm Saturday vs, Hampton.

B-CU (14-12, 6-6 MEAC) will hope home-cooking will be the remedy to get their game back on track. "It is a big weekend for us with Homecoming and Senior Day. We need to get a couple good days of practice before Saturday, work as we have been on defending and rebounding and playing tough," said Coach Reed. "We need to use the energy of the home crowd and to play well in our own arena and get back to our winning ways."
