FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Wildcats were overpowered offensively in game two of the Florida Gulf Coast series, Wednesday at Swanson Stadium. The Eagles put up runs in six innings to build a notable lead on B-CU, who struggled to put up hits. FGCU went on to win 12-1, taking both games in the series.
FGCU got on the board in the first inning on a chopper to the pitcher, and never looked back. The Eagles picked up two in the first, but then scored in three of the next four innings to separate themselves from B-CU.
B-CU brought in a run in the third with an RBI single from Nick Johnson on a slow roller to first. The Wildcats went for two, but Alejandro Sanchez couldn't beat the throw to home. The `Cats looked like the offense may start to come around at that point, but it didn't carry over.
FGCU held B-CU to just six hits in the game and one run.
Meanwhile, the Eagles put up 17 hits and scored in six of eight innings, going on to win 12-1 in game two of the series.
"We just didn't come out with the right attitude tonight," said Head Coach Mervyl Melendez of the Wildcats' performance.
The Wildcats jump right back into conference games, as they head out at the end of the week for a three-game series at MEAC opponent Norfolk State on Saturday and Sunday.
