Bowling To Bring Two Tournaments To Daytona Beach

Sept. 19, 2011

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman will showcase its bowling program to the Daytona Beach area by hosting two tournaments as part of its 2011-2012 schedule, Head Coach Tony O'Neal announced today.

The Lady Wildcats begin their season October 28-30 by hosting the Wildcat Invitational at Ormond Lanes. O'Neal anticipates a field of 12 teams visiting the Daytona Beach area. Plans are being made to stream several matches live online, including the championship finale.

"I'm eager to host our own tournament and display some Wildcat flair that weekend," O'Neal said. "We're going to create an event that will become a must-see over the next few years. The local bowling community will have an opportunity to see some top-flight collegiate competition."

B-CU's other "home" tournament will be the third and final round of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Divisional play March 3-4, 2012. B-CU will host five teams - Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, South Carolina State and Florida A&M - in its regular season finale that could shape the seedings for the MEAC tournament March 16-18.

"Playing at home is exciting for the Wildcats but we need to be at our best every weekend," O'Neal said."

Last year's squad advanced to the third round of the MEAC tournament, falling to Delaware State.

"We're working hard and striving to become a consistent championship contender." O'Neal said. "We have good mix of returning playing and newcomers and I feel strongly we'll give people a run for their money this year."
