DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Two Bethune-Cookman players received recognition from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for their contribution to last week's three-game sweep of South Carolina State.
Junior Michelle Banuelos-Smith earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Monday. Karina Romero earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Banuelos-Smith (OF, 5-5, Jr., Mission Hills, Calif.) batted .545 in 11 appearances with four doubles, four RBI and four runs scored.
Romero (OF, 5-7, Fr., Cathedral City, Calif.) also hit .545 (6-for-11) with three runs and two RBI in three victories for B-CU. In the second game of the series, Romero was 3-for-4 from the plate. She added 29 putouts in the defensive effort last week.
B-CU (20-21) hosts North Florida in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at Sunnyland Park beginning at 2 p.m.
