DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Destiny Hudson had 10 kills, while Delicia Pierre had eight kills, nine digs and five service aces as Bethune-Cookman downed Savannah State 3-0 (25-18,25-12,25-21) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division match Friday in Moore Gym.
Phylecia Armstrong added six kills and Jennifer Jimenez 11 digs as the Lady Cats (5-22 overall, 4-2 MEAC) snapped a six-match losing streak.
Pierre served three consecutive aces to help B-CU break open a 12-12 tie in the first set.
The second set was tied 10-10 before two Hudson kills and one from Pierre helped B-CU take a 14-10 advantage. After Savannah State stopped that run, the Lady Cats scored ten consecutive points to take control.
Rhea Simon had five kills in the third set and Hudson four as B-CU erased a brief 15-14 deficit.
Christian Lyle had eight kills for Savannah State (0-26,0-6).
The Lady Cats host South Carolina State Sunday at 1 p.m. It's the home finale and also is Senior Day honoring Jimenez, the lone senior.
NOTES: Pierre's five aces is a career-high ... Hudson was in double-figure kills for the fifth time this season ... B-CU remained tied with North Carolina A&T for second in the MEAC South; The Aggies downed North Carolina Central 3-0.
