@CookmanBaseball Game Day: Jacksonville

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (9-9) return to the confines of Jackie Robinson Ballpark for a midweek matchup with the Jacksonville Dolphins (5-11), who are making the annual trip down the Atlantic coast for a 6 p.m. game.

The Wildcats are looking to bounce back after taking a late-innings comeback loss on Tuesday night at cross-county rival Stetson, 7-2. The Wildcats hope to lock down a solid defensive game with one of the surprise rotation pitchers of the season, No. 4 starter and first baseman Anthony Stokes.

Pitching Matchups

B-CU: LHP Anthony Stokes (1-1, 1.20 ERA, 15.0 IP)

JU: RHU Wes Torrez (0-1, 9.00 ERA, 12.0 IP)

Notes About the Jacksonville Dolphins (5-11)

After falling at home to UCF, the Dolphins are on a two-game skid, claiming one in Orlando from the Knights, but before that faced a tough row of five games between TCU and Florida, going 0-5 in the set. JU is 1-3 on the road this season.

Facing tough competition thus far, the Dolphins haven't shown the biggest hitting in 2013, led by Zack Houck at .314, the only player batting over the .300 mark. Houck has 16 hits and a single RBI.

Jake Huxtable bats .292, starting in half the games thus far, with a pair of homers, a double and four RBI. Braddock Rowe follows at .290 with seven RBI. Drew Luther is one to keep an eye on, leading the team with 10 RBI on four doubles and .280 batting.

Much like Stetson, the Dolphins have not shown notable aggressiveness on basepath thus far, only attempting 11 steals on the year (seven successfully), and have at times proven to commit a significant amount of errors on defense, with 33 through 16 games.

Notes About the Wildcats (9-9)

Tuesday night's loss was a tough one, no doubt about it, but the Wildcats are looking to make the last home game for a week count, and extend their 6-2 record at "The Jack" one more victory.

Josh Johnson continues to lead the team at the plate in the early going, batting .345 with 19 hits and six RBI. Co-leaders in hits (20), B-CU's biggest extra-base hitters, Matt Noble and Eros Modena, look to chip in solid contact after an off-night in DeLand. Noble leads the team with eight doubles and 16 RBI on .286 batting, while Modena has six doubles and nine RBI on .299 batting, leading the team in runs scored (15).

After a solid outing over the weekend, with a seven-inning complete game shutout at North Carolina Central, Anthony Stokes will trade out his first base glove for a pitcher's taking the mound against the Dolphins, looking to extend his record to 2-1.
