FT. MYERS, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman produced a season-high offensive output, Eastern Michigan downed the Wildcats 9-8 in nine innings at Florida Gulf Coast.
The Wildcats (2-12) dropped their third one-run game and second extra inning contest.
Bailey Conner had three hits and drove in two runs, Kaitlin Alamprese homered and also drove in two runs, while Calesha Shelley, Sophia Ortega and Breanna Chavez each added two hits.
Conner's two-out double in the fifth scored Shelley to give B-CU an 8-7 lead after five.
Eastern Michigan (6-8) tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, then used a bases-loaded walk in the ninth for the go-ahead run.
B-CU took a 2-0 lead in the first on Alamprese's solo shot and a Shamaria Engram double that plated Conner.
Eastern Michigan scored four in the second, but the Wildcats answered with three of their own when Destinee Williams scored on a fielder's choice, Shelley on Alamprese's bunt and Kelsey Rodney on a Conner single.
The Wildcats extended their lead to 7-4 after four on Shelley's third inning RBI single and a fourth-inning Ortega two-out RBI single.
B-CU and Eastern Michigan face each other again Friday at 10 a.m. The Wildcats also meet Long Island and host Florida Gulf Coast at 12:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., respectively.
