Baker Named to All-MEAC Second Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman University bowler Felicia Baker has been named to the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Bowling Second Team, announced Friday from the MEAC offices in Norfolk, Va. All awards are voted on by the conference's head bowling coaches and sports information directors.

Baker, a junior from Marietta, Ga., leads the Wildcats with a 187.9 average through nine events this season. She picked up a season-best 246, as part of the MEAC Southern Division event in Durham, N.C., just three weeks ago. She also amassed game-highs of 244 (Kutztown Invitational) and 226 (twice, last at Mid-Winter Invitational).

Not only has she served as a team captain on the campaign, but she has helped anchor the Wildcats in Baker games, seeing action in a team-high 59 games.

Emily Strombeck of North Carolina A&T was selected as the MEAC Bowler of the Year, while Maryland Eastern Shore's Sara Pelayo was tabbed Rookie of the Year. N.C. A&T head coach James Williams was named Coach of the Year.

The 2014 MEAC Bowling Championship begins Friday, March 21 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Virginia at 8:30 a.m. Teams will compete in traditional games to determine seeding for day two action.

Play continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series. The championship concludes on Sunday, March 23 beginning with the semifinal round at 9:30 a.m. and concluding with the championship final at noon.

The championship finale will air tape-delayed on ESPNU on March 31 at 10:30 p.m.
