DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – Bethune-Cookman's Delicia Pierre has been named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's Preseason All-Conference Volleyball team, it was announced today (August 14, 2014).
The junior outside hitter from Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago, led the MEAC in service aces per set (.55) and finished the regular season ranked fifth in the nation in that category. She also was fifth in kills per set (3.21) and third in points per set (4.05) as she garnered a berth on the All-Conference Second Team in 2013.
Hampton's Vendula Strakova was named Preseason Player of The Year.
The Lady Wildcats were predicted to finish third in the MEAC's Southern Division behind Florida A&M and North Carolina A&T. Florida A&M received 23 first-place votes and 153 points in a poll of the conference's head volleyball coaches and sports information directors., while North Carolina A&TSouth Carolina State received two first-place vote and 112. Bethune-Cookman received one first-place and 101 points to finish ahead of South Carolina State (75 points), North Carolina Central (70) and Savannah State (35). Defending MEAC tournament champion Hampton was predicted to win the Northern Division.
Bethune-Cookman opens its 2014 season August 29-30 at the Florida Atlantic University Invitational, facing host FAU, Stetson and McNeese State.
