FORT MYERS, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman (8-13, 5-0 MEAC) volleyball dropped a midweek match, as the Wildcats fell 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-22) to FGCU on Tuesday, Oct. 13 in Fort Myers, Florida.
During a season rematch, it was all FGCU in the first set as the Wildcats never led, dropping a convincing 25-11 game to the Eagles.
FGCU opened the second set with a quick 3-0 run before a Rakaya Neely kill ended the Eagles rally.
The Wildcats answered with a run of their own, putting up six-straight points on the home team.
Points went back-and-forth before B-CU head coach Brittany Williams called a timeout, trailing 13-10.
Out of the TO, the Wildcats responded with a 7-1 advantage, leading 17-14 and forcing the Eagles to call a timeout of their own.
The 'Cats were unable to hold onto their lead, falling behind at set point, 24-22. A Delicia Pierre kill threatened to keep B-CU alive before FGCU pulled away with the 25-24 victory, and 2-0 lead heading into the break.
The third set saw four ties and one lead change after B-CU went up 1-0 to open the game.
Despite a Rhea Simon last effort to keep the Wildcats in the game, with a kill at match-point, the Eagles took the third set 25-20 victory, finishing the 3-0 sweep.
Pierre led the B-CU offense finishing with 11 kills while Simon added nine. Hazel Ortiz Rosado finished the match with 24 assists, five kills, six digs and three blocks.
Defensively, Normarie Rolon picked up team-best 15 digs and Neely added three additional blocks to Ortiz Rosado's count.
The Wildcats wrap up nonconference competition as B-CU heads to the Nations' Capital to take on Howard, Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m., followed by a match against American on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
