Volleyball Remains Perfect in MEAC with SSU Sweep

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman volleyball remained unbeaten in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play as the Wildcats took the season sweep over Savannah State, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-14) on Friday, Oct. 23 in Moore Gym.

Although the first set saw seven ties and one lead change, it was all B-CU as the Wildcats pulled away with a 25-17 victory.

With Normarie Rolon back to serve to open the second, the 'Cats used a 6-0 run to pull ahead early over the Tigers.

SSU called a timeout after trailing 22-12 late in the second set, while Rakaya Neely sealed the B-CU victory with a set-point kill as the 'Cats earned the 25-16 win and took the 2-0 match lead.

Despite an early 1-1 tie and lead-change swap, it was at B-CU again in the third set as the 'Cats remained perfect in MEAC play with a 25-14 third set victory, giving them the 3-0 sweep.

Offensively, Rhea Simon led B-CU 13 kills (13-1-29) finishing .414, while Neely (9-0-15, .600) and Delicia Pierre each finished with nine kills.

Senior setter Hazel Ortiz Rosado finished with a match-best 37 assists, while on the defensive end Normarie Rolon led the 'Cats with 15 digs and Ajsha Davie added 14.

On the net B-CU out blocked the Tigers 8.0 to 1.0 as redshirt junior Phylecia Armstrong finished with a team-best five blocks including two solos.

The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, Oct. 25 as B-CU closes out the 2015 regular season, hosting the South Carolina State Bulldogs on “Senior Day” at 1 p.m., in Moore Gym.
