Historic Season Comes to an End During MEAC Finals

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – After a historic run, the Bethune-Cookman volleyball team's epic season came to an end after falling 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-21) during the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship match, and a rematch with the No. 1 from the northern division, Howard, Sunday Nov. 22.

The Wildcats struggled offensively, as Jill Arlaud led the way with six kills on 11 attempts, trailed by Delicia Pierre's five.

Hazel Ortiz Rosado earned her 13th double-double of the season finishing her final match at B-CU with 19 assists and 11 digs, while Normarie Rolon collected a match-best 22 digs.

Destiny Hudson, Hazel Ortiz Rosado, Delicia Pierre and Rhea Simon bid their final farewell as Wildcats during the championship match, as the foursome marked their names in the record books at B-CU.

Hudson, Pierre and Simon were apart of the 2012 squad who saw five total wins, finishing their senior campaign with three-times as many W's, at 15-16.

Hudson wrapped-up her career playing in 118 matches, earning 532 kills, 233 digs, 81 blocks and 16 service aces. During a match at FIU this season (Sept. 17, 2015) she tallied a .435 hitting percentage after finishing 10-0-23 and collecting six digs, two service aces and one block.  

Pierre finished her four-year campaign with 1,136 kills in 112 matches, ranking her second all-time at B-CU (62 shy of the school leader), she collected 737 digs, 240 blocks, 117 service aces (fourth all-time at B-CU) and 1,390.5 points.

During the 2014 season Pierre was named to the All-MEAC third team, while earning first team honors during her final season. Against Binghamton in the 2015 season-opener (Aug. 28) Pierre registered a career-best 26 kills, ranking fourth at B-CU for most in a match.

Simon completed her collegiate career with 776 kills, 435 digs, 126 blocks and 51 service aces. As a junior Simon knocked in a career-high 20 kills in a 3-1 loss to McNeese St. (Aug. 30, 2014) and tallied a career-best 19 digs during a 3-2 win over N.C. Central (Oct. 5, 2014).

On Sept. 5, 2015 Simon hit a .667 after finishing with 10 kills on 13 attempts with no errors in a match at St. Mary's (Calif.), earning her a 5th place spot all-time at B-CU.

Ortiz Rosado, who joined the Wildcats after two seasons at Monroe College, finished her B-CU career with 1,819 assists, earning her a second place spot on the all-time list in school history after only two seasons, while her 931 assists during 2015 also ranks second at B-CU for most in a season. Ortiz Rosado collected a career-high 55 assists during the season-opener against Binghamton (Aug. 28, 2015), tying her fourth all-time for most in a match at Bethune-Cookman.

Serving as the Wildcat's floor general for two seasons, Ortiz Rosado earned an impressive 21 assist/dig double-doubles, tallying 13 during her final season while ranked nationally during her junior campaign in service aces per set finishing with 0.48 per set (54 total), seventh best in the NCAA. She was also selected to the 2014 All-MEAC Third Team, 2015 Preseason All-MEAC team, 2015 All-MEAC First Team and the 2015 All-MEAC Tournament Team. 

Following her final match, Ortiz Rosado also represents the programs first student-athlete to continue their career after being drafted in the Puerto Rican professional league.

As a team, the Wildcats finished 2015 ranked number two in the MEAC in hitting percentage (.207), second in opponent hitting percentage (.117), third in assists per set (11.21), third in kills per set (12.22), first in blocks per set (2.38) and first in digs per set (15.28).

B-CU also finished nationally ranked 52nd in opponent hitting percentage and 60th in blocks per set.
