SAVANNAH, Ga. – Ricky Johnson scored a game-high 19 points, but Bethune-Cookman's two-game winning streak was stopped by Savannah State's 58-49 victory Wednesday night.
The Tigers (8-19 overall, 4-9 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) opened up a 49-32 lead on Khalen Pickett's lay-up with 13:07 remaining. Bethune-Cookman (10-18,6-7) got as close as 57-42 on a Travis Elliott basket with 2:43 to play, but could come no closer.
Brandon Stewart was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 10 points. Elliott finished with eight points and matched his career-high of 11 rebounds.
The Wildcats, who had won their previous four road conference games, led 22-20 on Stewart free throws with 2:24 remaining in the first half, but the Tigers closed the half by scoring six of the final seven points and took a 26-23 lead into the locker room.
Terel Hall led the Tigers with 14.
Bethune-Cookman continues its road trip Saturday against North Carolina Central.
