DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – During a historic night in Moore Gymnasium, Bethune-Cookman volleyball dropped a 3-1 match (25-27, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21) to the University of North Florida during a season rematch on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Daytona Beach.
During set three of the setback, B-CU redshirt senior Delicia Pierre recorded her 1,000th career kill, making her the third Wildcat all-time to hit the 1k-mark.
After pulling out the 27-25 victory in set one and finishing with a .400 team hitting percentage, it was all UNF in the second set as the Osprey knotted the match at one with a 25-19 second set victory.
After the ten-minute intermission, the Wildcats opened the third set with a convincing 8-2 run early.
The opening-match run was not enough to hold onto for B-CU in the third, as UNF battled back for the 25-23 victory.
With the 2-1 match lead the Osprey finished off the Wildcats during the fourth with a 25-21 victory.
Pierre finished her career night with 17 kills, while fellow senior Rhea Simon trailed with 13.
Phylecia Armstrong finished with nine kills on 19 attempts with no errors, earning a .474 hitting percentage.
Senior setter Hazel Ortiz Rosado collected her eighth assist/dig double-double of the season finishing with a match-best 47 assists and 13 digs.
Armstrong and Neely added five blocks each on the defensive end, as the Wildcats out blocked the Osprey 11.0-5.0 as a team.
Also on the defensive end, Normarie Rolon seized a match-best 17 digs while Ajsha Davie earned 10.
B-CU returns to action on Friday, Oct. 2 as the Wildcats host cross-state rival, Florida A&M at 7 p.m., in Moore Gym.
