The Game
Bethune-Cookman still seeks its first win of the 2016 season as the Wildcats welcome North Carolina A&T to Municipal Stadium. For the Aggies, the trip to Daytona is their first since 2012. Additionally, North Carolina A&T enters the game ranked No. 15 in the STATS poll, and comes in No. 16 in the FCS Coaches' poll.
Â
For the first time since 2009, Bethune-Cookman stares up at a 0-4 record on the campaign, but one of those losses occurred against Football Bowl Subdivision (FCS) opponent North Texas. Though holding a record of 0-4, this weekend's game was originally slated to be the seventh game of the year. B-CU's game against Alcorn was canceled due to weather, while the S.C. State game was postponed for the same reason.
Â
The Series
Bethune-Cookman leads the all-time series against North Carolina A&T by a mark of 22-15. The Aggies claimed a 24-14 decision over the Wildcats a season ago in Greensboro, North Carolina, but B-CU has won the last four games played between the two teams in the city of Daytona Beach. In fact, the Cats have won eight of the last 10 meetings, with N.C. A&T earning wins in 2011 and 2015 – both games taking place in Greensboro.
Â
The Broadcasts
The game will be carried live on ESPN3/WatchESPN, while the re-air will occur on ESPNU at 10:30 p.m. for television. Meanwhile, the CatEye Radio Network carries the contest via all three stations in the form of WELE 1380 The CAT, WSIR 1490 and WSOS 99.5 & 1170 with Nick Rice (play-by-play) operating alongside Larry Wesley (color) and Steve Allen (analyst) provides expert analysis from the team vantage point on the field.
Â
The Coach
Head Coach
Terry Sims is now in his second year at the helm of the Bethune-Cookman Football program. The Knoxville alum holds a record of 9-6 in Maroon and Gold.
Â
The Weather
Projected temperatures on game day: Daytona Beach – 83/72 (80% chance of rain). Greensboro, N.C. – 71/51.
Â
#5Things
1. Bethune-Cookman will be seeking its first win of the season – the longest stretch of time for a season opening win since 2009.
2. This is the second consecutive co-champion from the 2015 MEAC season that Bethune-Cookman is playing during the "Murderer's Row" stretch.
3. Bethune-Cookman sits sixth nationally in punt returns, averaging 20.44 yards per return on the year.
4. Redshirt sophomore quarterback
Larry Brihm, Jr. is scheduled to make his return to the Wildcats, while redshirt freshman
Akevious Williams could battle for the start.
5. Bethune-Cookman is seeking its fifth consecutive win at home over North Carolina A&T.
Â
FUN FACT
Bethune-Cookman has played North Carolina A&T on television more than any other member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, aside from Sunshine State rival Florida A&M.
Â
A WIN OVER NORTH CAROLINA A&T WOULD...
• Give Bethune-Cookman its first win of the 2016 campaign.
• Extend B-CU's home winning streak against the Aggies to five games.
• Give the Wildcats their fourth consecutive ESPN televised contest win.
• Allow Wildcats' head coach
Terry Sims to collect his 10th victory in charge of the Maroon and Gold.
Â
SERIES NOTES...
• Bethune-Cookman leads the series against North Carolina A&T by a count of 22-15.
• Since 2000, B-CU holds a 9-5 advantage in the series, including a 4-2 mark in Daytona Beach, Florida.
• This will be the first meeting between the two teams in Daytona Beach since the Wildcats claimed a 28-12 victory over the Aggies on a 2012 Bethune-Cookman homecoming weekend.
• The game marks the seventh time in the history of the series that at least one team has been ranked in the national polls. It marks the first time for the Aggies in the series since 2003.
• Bethune-Cookman has only beaten a ranked North Carolina A&T team once, that coming back in 1998 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Â
DELAYED, POSTPONED AND CANCELED...
• With the MEAC/SWAC Challenge delayed by almost three hours – and eventually suspended altogether, and the North Carolina Central game delayed for just under three hours, the Wildcats have experienced more delays than any team in the FCS this season in terms of length of time.
• Bethune-Cookman has had one game suspended and two postponed to later dates this year, all due to weather.
Â
B-CU AND S.C. STATE GAME MOVED...
• Due to Hurricane Matthew hitting the east coast, the game between Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State has been moved to Saturday, November 26.
Â
#INJURYBUG...
• According to Head Coach
Terry Sims, he has never has a season in which injuries have struck a team he coached in history.
• In all, a total of 12 original starters from the beginning of the season have missed time due to injury, including two season-ending injuries in the form of running back
Michael Jones and junior quarterback
Anthony Cruz. Both players are expected to petition for and receive a medical hardship waiver following the season.
• Cruz suffered a fractured wrist in the first half of a game at Savannah State earlier this year.
Â
WHERE THERE'S A JA"WILL", THERE'S A WAY
• Wide receiver
Jawill Davis extended his streak of games with at least one reception to 15 two weeks ago against MEAC defending champion North Carolina Central. Davis has caught at least one pass since the start of the 2015 season at Miami (Fla.), in his hometown of Miami.
