SEASON PREVIEW
The pieces are in place for Bethune-Cookman women's basketball to remain atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference this year, both on the court and off the court.
The Wildcats lost just one player from last season's regular season championship team. Back are the two All-Americans, one of whom was the conference defensive of the year. Also back: the OTHER two all-conference players.
So, yeah, B-CU's loaded. And they are motivated … by a first-round conference tournament upset loss to South Carolina State and a post-season WNIT loss to Florida Gulf Coast. If you're going to make it to the next level, you want to make the best of it.
B-CU will be tested all season, long before heading to the MEAC tournament in Norfolk in March, as the Wildcats have no true home games. All of the Bethune-Cookman's home games will played on the road in some form or fashion, including the season opener, Nov. 11 against Edward Waters at the ICI Center on the campus of Embry Riddle.
Leading the returners is senior
Kailyn Williams, who developed more of a complete game last season in addition to that shot-blocking ability (107 last year) to average 13.1 points and nine boards a game. Williams also led the MEAC in field goal percentage (.523) and registered the program's first recorded triple-double against North Carolina A&T.
Also back is senior guard
Kendra Cooper, the conference's fifth-leading scorer (14.1 ppg). She's the Lady Wildcats' top three-point threat, leading the league in three-point field goal percent (.372) and three-pointers per game (2.4)
Senior
Taylor Houston (9.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg) garnered third team All MEAC honors last year while
Angel Golden (5.9 ppg, 2.2 reb) was named an All-Rookie selection.
