Box Score CLEVELAND – For 20 minutes,
Quinton Forrest felt like he was "channeling his inner LeBron James."
So, yeah … "Q" had quite the day at the "Q."
Forrest's first career double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds was one of Bethune-Cookman's on-the-court highlights in Saturday's 73-62 loss to Cleveland State on the home court of the NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
The sophomore from Windemere was 10-12 from the field in the second half and became the Wildcats' go-to guy with Cleveland State's box-and-one keeping leading scorer
Brandon Tabb quiet for 25 minutes.
"I started off slow," said Forrest, who posted career highs in both scoring and rebounding in B-CU's first-double-double since
Mario Moody had 17 points and 11 rebounds in last year's overtime win at Stetson. "Once I settled down, I was okay."
Early in the game, Forrest drove to the basket and finished for an easy lay-up, but grabbed the net as he elevated and was whistled for a technical foul. Head Coach
Gravelle Craig had him on the bench faster than it takes to read this sentence.
"I have no idea why I did that," Forrest said. "Maybe I got too excited."
After paying his penance, Forrest kept Bethune-Cookman in the second half by driving the baseline and scoring off offensive rebounds.
"If he plays like that, he'll average double figures," Craig said. " He's active, sneaking and athletic …cutting to the basket and not standing around. "We don't have run a play for him – he'll get his being a junkyard dog."
Saturday's game was Forrest's fourth straight in double figures. He's third on the team in scoring with 10.1 points a game.
