Bethune-Cookman to Host Second Event of Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Bowling is set to host the Fifth Annual Wildcat Invitational at the Sunshine Bowling Lanes in DeLand, Florida. The three-day event begins Friday, Feb. 5, running through Sunday, Feb. 7.

Bethune-Cookman welcomes three visiting teams to the Sunshine State, as well as a fellow MEAC in-state opponent, capping off the six-team field with the host Wildcats joining the bunch. The annual Wildcat Invitational is quickly becoming one of the state's premier bowling tournaments.

This year's field includes the host Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman, joined by Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Florida A&M and Sacred Heart. Prior to Saturday's action, Bethune-Cookman will honor senior All-MEAC student-athlete Rebecca Goodwin with a special Senior Day celebration.

Once again, Sunshine Bowling Lanes in DeLand, Florida will host the event. Sunshine Bowling Lanes is newly renovated with several new lanes, a game room and updated private area catering to businesses and personal parties. The updated facility is now considered one of the finest bowling lanes in Central Florida.

The Wildcats enter the weekend following a strong outing last weekend at the Florida A&M Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Fifth Annual Wildcat Invitational gets underway Friday at 10 a.m., with 5x4 Baker games.

In the Baker format, starting members of the competing teams will successively and, in regular order, bowl one frame on one lane. Once five frames are completed, the team members will remain on the same lane and complete the starting member order again, with frames six through 10 being completed. This pattern of play will continue until all 10 frames of a game are completed. No changes can be made in the order of players after the start of a game, except for substitutes, although once a bowler has been pulled from the game they are not allowed to return until the next game.

The teams will then square off on Saturday at 10 a.m., with five traditional games.

In the five-person team game, starting members of the competing teams will successively and, in regular order, bowl one frame on one lane. Once completed, the team members shall move to the alternate lane of the competition pair. This pattern of play continues until all 10 frames of a game are complete. The same substitution rules as Baker will apply.

The invitational concludes Sunday with a tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m. The tournament, consisting of Best 4-of-7 Baker matches, will determine the champion. The five teams will be seeded based on the performance on Friday and Saturday.
