@BCUGridiron Drops 41-20 Decision At North Texas

Wildcats stumble at North Texas on the road

DENTON, Texas  -- With the eyes of [North] Texas upon them for the first time since 1981, the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats dropped a 41-20 loss to the Mean Greene Saturday night at Apogee Stadium.

North Texas running backs  Willy Ivery  and Jeffrey Wilson combined for 186 yards and three touchdowns as the Mean Greene ran off 31 unanswered points after Bethune-Cookman started the game with an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown by Frank Brown.

Andrew Tucker scored two touchdowns for the Mean Green, including a blocked punt return with 10:32 remaining in the second quarter that broke a 7-7 tie.
Diquan Richardson nearly brought the Wildcats back in the game single-handedly in the second half.

First, his 30-yard Pick Six in the third quarter broke the Wildcat scoring draught. Later, he blocked a punt that put the Wildcats at the North Texas 5-yard line, but B-CU was unable to capitalize.

The Wildcat offense finally got on the board on an 83-yard scamper by Akevious Williams with 2:42 to play.

Starter Larry Brihm  finished 8 of 19 for 74 in the air and rushed for 27. Jawill Davis had four catches for 49.

Richardson also led the Wildcat defense with nine tackles, followed by Arthur Williams with eight and Elliott Miller and Trenton Bridges with seven each. Punter Jonathan Cagle averaged 40.8 yards on five attempts.

HEAD COACH TERRY SIMS

"We Just didn't play well enough. Dropped balls, missed tackles, didn't execute on special teams."

"You can not allow a team to continue to grab momentum like we let them. We scored on a punt return, but them let them come down the field and score."

"[Diquan] Richardson is the same guy every day. He practices hard, he plays hard, he plays with a lot of passion. If we had everybody playing like him tonight, the score might have been different."

"We stood up when we needed, but we had a lot of self-inflicted wounds as well. "We're not where we need to be. Hopefully, this is a wake-up call."
