PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Ivory Miles picked up Most Outstanding Bowler honors while Bethune-Cookman took sixth place overall on the weekend at the 2017 Florida A&M University Invitational housed in Pensacola, Florida.

Miles, a senior from Bolingbrook, Illinois, was instrumental for Bethune-Cookman in traditional play on Saturday. Also named to the all-tournament team alongside Miles was classmate
Krysta Coleman from Trotwood, Ohio. The Wildcats duo was first and second, respectfully, in the final standings.

However, the Wildcats began the tournament on Friday with five Baker matches.

B-CU (25-54) began Baker play with an 884-865 defeat of Louisiana Tech, followed by a loss to 23rd-ranked UAB by a score of 1,076-852.

The Maroon and Gold then claimed three consecutive wins, the longest of its kind in Baker play on the year, beginning with an 824-606 victory over Alabama A&M out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). That was followed up with an 883-790 decision over host Florida A&M. The final victory was a thrilling 861-860 win over Alabama State.

B-CU took part in traditional games on Saturday, turning in a 2-3 overall mark in five games.

The day began with a 954-890 win over Spring Hill. Both Miles and Coleman collected 200-plus games in that contest. Coleman led all performers with a season-best 264, while Miles turned in a 234 to boot.

The Cats fell in their next contest, an 889-857 defeat at the hands of Southern. It was Coleman's 195 that led the group in that setback against the Jaguars.

Louisiana Tech claimed an 866-817 victory over Bethune-Cookman in the next matchup, but Miles secured the high score for the Cats with a team-best 220 score in that contest. B-CU then fell to No. 23 UAB in the following matchup, 971-939. Miles was the top bowler with a season-high 234, while Coleman followed with a 209 effort.

In the final match of the day, Miles dropped a 216 game for B-CU in an 859-636 effort over Alabama A&M.

Sunday's bracket bowling format featured B-CU against three opponents, as the Cats began the day as the No. 4 seed following total pint count from the previous two days of bowling.

In the Baker games, B-CU dropped the first on the strength of a 4-1 decision against Louisiana Tech, followed by a tough 4-0 setback at the hands of Spring Hill. The final match was a 4-0 loss to Florida A&M, putting B-CU in sixth place for the weekend.

Alabama State was the eventual champion, defeating UAB in the final match, 4-3.

Bethune-Cookman returns to the lanes March 3-4, hosting the third Southern Division event of the season in Ormond Beach, Florida.
