FAMU hosts second MEAC Southern event of season

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After a weekend off for the Thanksgiving holiday, Bethune-Cookman Bowling is back in action this weekend for the second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern event of the 2017-18 campaign. Florida A&M hosts this weekend's event in Tallahassee, Florida.

The MEAC Southern Division #2 event begins Saturday, Dec. 2, at 9 a.m. The second of three division events for the 2017-18 season, this weekend's divisional runs through Sunday, and takes place at Galimore Lanes in Tallahassee.

The entire event will be broadcast on Rattler Vision by Rattler Productions via YouTube at GoFAMU Athletics which can be accessed by clicking here.

Bethune-Cookman is one of four participating teams in the MEAC Southern Divisional, joined by host FAMU, as well as nationally ranked competitors Norfolk State and North Carolina A&T.

Saturday's competition includes five team games.

In the five-person team game, starting members of the competing teams will successively and, in regular order, bowl one frame on one lane. Once completed, the team members shall move to the alternate lane of the competition pair. This pattern of play continues until all 10 frames of a game are complete. The same substitution rules as Baker will apply.

The event concludes Sunday with 5x4 Baker games.

In the Baker format, starting members of the competing teams will successively and, in regular order, bowl one frame on one lane. Once five frames are completed, the team members will remain on the same lane and complete the starting member order again, with frames six through 10 being completed. This pattern of play will continue until all 10 frames of a game are completed. No changes can be made in the order of players after the start of a game, except for substitutes, although once a bowler has been pulled from the game they are not allowed to return until the next game.

In the first MEAC Southern event hosted by Norfolk State back on Nov. 11-12, it was senior Amyre Tensley performing well for the Maroon and Gold as the Detroit native registered a season-high performance in Traditional play. Also recording high scoring efforts was Nia Grinion with a season-best outing and a great showing in Baker games.

The MEAC Southern #2 will serve as the final competitive event of the 2017 calendar year for the Wildcats as they break for the winter holidays. BCU opens the 2018 calendar year traveling to the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, Pennsylvania, taking place January 19-21, 2018.
