Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Led by
Brandon Tabb's 14 points, Bethune-Cookman held Hampton to five points in the final 4:33 to hold on to a 62-61 win in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play Saturday.
Leading 62-61, the Wildcats made two crucial defensive stops with in the last 1:18, but failed to convert on offense as
Quinton Forrest and Tabb each missed from the free throw line. Hampton had a chance to steal the game, but Bracey Lysander's three-point buzzer beater was off.
 "We made stops down the stretch," said Head Coach
Gravelle Craig. "We played good defense when it counted."
The Wildcats held Hampton's leading scorer Jermaine Marrow, entering the game with an average of 15.5 points per game, to only two points on 1-11 shooting. Meanwhile for Bethune-Cookman, seven players contributed with scoring as team basketball was as good as ever.
"We finally put together a win, and got stops at the end of the game" said
Diamante Lewis, who scored 13 points for the Wildcats. "It was a low scoring game, we spread out all the points and everybody contributed more."
Taking down third-place Hampton (11-14,8-4) showing that the Wildcats can compete with anybody.
"It felt good to get a win over Hampton," said Tabb, the Wildcats' leading scorer Tabb. "We had to mature. We were tired of coming in at halftime ahead, then letting it slide."
Jeffrey Altidort had 11 off the bench, while freshman center
Brandon Suggs matched his career high, scoring nine points while grabbing six rebounds.
