Ryan Jackson: MEAC Co-Rookie of the Week

Fifth award of 2017 for BCU slugger

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman Softball student-athlete Ryan Jackson has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Rookie of the Week for the period of April 10-16, 2017. The announcement came from the league office on Monday, April 10, in Norfolk, Virginia.

For the fifth time on the 2017 campaign, Ryan Jackson is earning a weekly award from the MEAC. She has been named Rookie of the Week twice, while picking up Player of the Week accolades on three occasions.

Jackson, a 5-6, freshman from Chino Hills, California, served as the designated hitter for the Wildcats over the weekend, returning from injury to help the Cats sweep a conference series from North Carolina Central on the road in Cary, North Carolina.

She went 4-for-11 behind the plate in three wins over North Carolina Central. She led the team in slugging percentage (1.182), while recording three home runs in the series. Two of Jackson's home runs came in the series finale and accounted for both of her hits that day.

Jackson shares the Rookie of the Week award alongside Taylor Warrick of Hampton.

This week's Pitcher of the Week was Morgan State's Amy Begg, while Player of the Week honors were picked up by Damali Young of Morgan State.

Bethune-Cookman returns home for a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday, April 12, when the Wildcats welcome the North Florida Ospreys to Sunnyland Park. Game one is set to begin at 2 p.m.
