LYNCHBURG, Va. – Demetrius Sims had two hits, but Bethune-Cookman dropped a 6-1 decision to Liberty in the final game of a non-conference series Sunday afternoon.
Liberty (16-10) got a three-run homer from Jake Barbee in the opening inning and never trailed as four Flame pitchers combined on a five-hitter.
The Wildcats (19-11) scored their lone run in the fourth when
Kyle Corbin plated on
Chase DeBonis' fielder's choice. Bethune-Cookman left the bases loaded at the end on the inning.
Bethune-Cookman made a late scoring threat in the eighth when Sims led off and
Jameel Edney drew a one-out walk, but the Wildcats couldn't score.
Donte Lindsay (1-4) took the loss.
Tyler Krull work three innings of two-run relief,
Alexis Herrera gave up one run in two innings, and
TJ Densmore worked a scoreless eighth.
The Wildcats won Friday's opener 5-4 but fell 4-3 in 10 innings Saturday night.
Bethune-Cookman travels to Florida Atlantic Tuesday.
