DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- Angel Golden scored 21 points as Bethune-Cookman celebrated Senior Day with a 75-54 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over Savannah State Saturday afternoon.
The junior from Tampa scored the first 10 Lady Wildcat points and 15 of the first 20 as the Lady Wildcats (22-4 overall, 14-0 MEAC) won their 14th straight and 24th consecutive regular season conference game dating back to last season.
The victory sets the stage for a first-place battle with North Carolina A&T Monday night. The Aggies, who played Florida A&M late Saturday, trail B-CU by one game for the conference lead.
Bethune-Cookman overcame a slow start for a 20-11 lead after one quarter, 38-18 at halftime and as many as 31 at 62-31 and 64-33 on
Amaya Scott third quarter baskets.
Scott, a freshman, had 10 points for B-CU, which saw 11 of its 13 players log 10 minutes or more.
Ashanti Hunt and
Briana Hardee each scored eight,
Chasimmie Brown and
Amani Ball seven apiece, and sisters Brianna and
Kanesha Battle each had six. Senior
Emily Williams, honored along with
Lyndsey Edwards, had six assists.
Savannah State (4-22,1-13) was led by Kaylee Allen's 20 points and seven rebounds.
