NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman Bowling student-athletes
Diamond Cummings,
Bethany Gray-Shealey and
Amyre Tensley were each honored to the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Bowling All-Academic Team, announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon from their headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia.
The MEAC honored a total of 42 student-athletes from the conference's nine bowling institutions who have achieved academic success in the spring 2017 and fall 2017 semesters.
MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
"I would like to congratulate our women's bowling student-athletes who maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during the spring 2017 and fall 2017 semesters," said Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. "I would also like to acknowledge and thank the institutional and athletic academic support staffs, faculty, coaches and families for their support in the student-athletes' success."

Amyre Tensley was named to the all-academic team for the third consecutive year. The Detroit native picked up her first all-conference recognition on Tuesday, as voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Also named to the all-academic team from the Maroon and Gold was
Diamond Cummings. The junior bowler from Swartz Creek, Michigan averaged a 151 through four tournaments on the year. She competed in 27 Baker matches for the Wildcats and used a game-high 199 at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson in November 2017.
The third and final member named to the all-academic team was
Bethany Gray-Shealey. The native of West Palm Beach, Florida took part in five tournaments across the campaign for the Wildcats, turning in a 169.67 averaged in all events. Her game-high 205 was registered in her final tournament of the year – the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, Pennsylvania.
The 2018 MEAC Bowling Championships begin Friday, March 23 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Va. at 8:30 a.m. with the opening ceremony. In that ceremony, the First Team honorees, regular-season division champions, Bowler of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year will be recognized.
Teams will compete in five traditional games to determine the seeding for day two action.
The championship concludes on Sunday, March 25 with the championship final at 12 p.m.
