#RallyCats Deliver In Ninth For Dramatic Win Over FAU

Stacy delivers game-winner in four-run ninth

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman scored four two-out runs in the bottom of the ninth to post a 7-6 comeback victory against Florida Atlantic Tuesday at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The Wildcats (10-15) hit five times in the frame and scored the game-winner on a Jordan Stacy walkoff single to left field off Owl (17-8) reliever Zach Schneider.

The inning ratcheted up with two outs and a Zach Spivey double to left moved Ian Claudio, who singled earlier, to third. Giovanny Lorenzo walked on four pitches to load the bags, and Chase DeBonis drove in two on a single up the middle. The Wildcats tied the game at six when Kyle Corbin hit a groundball to the right side. Owl first baseman Gunnar Lambert showed range to field the bouncing ball, but his throw to the covering Schneider was behind the pitcher. Pinch-runner Joe Fernando never broke stride around third and raced home to score off the single, then throwing error. That set the tone for Stacy's game-winner to left that drove in DeBonis.

Schneider (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season with two earned runs off five hits in the ninth, while BCU reliever Alexis Herrera (2-3) gained the victory with three runs off nine hits, no walks, and two strikeouts in three innings of action.

FAU opened the scoring in the second with a pair of two-out runs. Richie Nizza doubled off the left field wall, and then scored on a Diamond Johnson single. Later in the inning, Johnson scored off a Brady Norris balk.

Jameel Edney answered in the third with a strong at-bat. The second baseman worked a full count and then delivered a solo shot over the left field wall to put BCU on the board.

Jordan Pinto took the hill to start the fourth and set the visitors down quickly, including consecutive strikeouts to close the frame.

The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the inning with station-to-station baseball. Corbin reached on a single through the right side, then advanced to second on a balk from reliever Nick Swan. Stacy, pinch-hitting, knocked a single to left field that scored Corbin and tied the game at two

BCU grabbed its first lead in the fifth with two-out hitting. Giovany Lorenzo benefitted from a big hop on a grounder down the first base line and hustled to second for a double. A batter later, DeBonis smacked an RBI single to center and BCU held a 3-2 lead.

FAU answered quickly with a leadoff triple by David Miranda to right center, and then Pedro Page hit a Baltimore chop RBI single to third.

The Owls regained the lead in the seventh with a two-out solo homer off the bat of Tyler Frank, and added two more runs in the ninth for a 6-3 advantage.

Pinto pitched three innings with one run off two hits, no walks, and three strikeouts, while starter Norris also worked three frames with two runs off four hits a walk, and two strikeouts.

BCU accumulated 14 hits on the evening, with six players posting two-hit efforts. DeBonis led the way with a game-high three RBI.

The Wildcats play a three-game non-conference series with Volusia County rival Stetson University starting Thursday. First pitch from Melching Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
