DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman's
Rehaana Butt has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie Of The Year and is joined on the Women's All-Conference First Team, it was announced today [April 24, 2018].
Jose Plazas garnered a berth on the Men's All-Conference Second Team.

Butt, a freshman from Palm Harbor, Fla. was a six-time MEAC Rookie of the Week this season and led Bethune-Cookman with a 10-4 mark in singles play (4-1 in conference play)Â from the No. 2 position.She concluded the regular season winning eight of her last 10 singles matches. In addition, Butt went 11-4 in doubles play in her first collegiate campaign, including an 11-3 mark with Roki in the No. 1 doubles position (a perfect 5-0 in MEAC play).
This is B-CU's first Rookie Of The Year award since Maria Garoz-Mareno in 2015.
Roki, a senior from Toronto, picked her second First Team award. She was 10-5 in singles play from the No. 1 position and 11-3 with Butt at No. 1 doubles. During conference play, she went a combined 10-0 for the second straight year and moved into tenth place on the all-time doubles victory list with 39.

Vidal, a senior from Maracaibo, Venezuela, became the seventh Lady Wildcat to register 100 combined wins with her two victories against Southern on March 25. She was 10-4 at the No. 3 position and combined with
Karen Romero for an 11-3 mark at No. 2 doubles. She went 5-0 in conference play in singles and 4-1 in doubles, finishing her career with a 19-1 doubles mark.
Plazas, a junior from Bogota, Colombia, made the Second Team for the second straight year. Playing mostly at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, Plazas helped the Wildcats qualify for the MEAC tournament after a one-year absence.

The Lady Wildcats, seeded second from the MEAC South Division open tournament play when they face Howard, third from the North, at 11 a.m. at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Â The Wildcat men, seeded third, face Norfolk State, seeded second at 4 p.m.
