DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – They call
Kareem Fair "Fly."
Makes sense.
On Friday,
Kareem Fair flew.
The Bethune-Cookman senior's 100 meter preliminary time of 10.25 seconds turned heads at the Embry Riddle Spikes Classic.
Fair still has the finals Saturday at approximately 12:30 p.m. but his run on a fast Embry-Riddle surface has already pushed him to a higher level.
The 10.25:
- Was his PR
- Is the fastest time in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference so far this season
- Is the eighth fastest time in the NCAA East Region.
"I felt pretty good and confident," Fair said. "I'm coming in this season as one of the top guys [in the conference.] This lets me know what I can do."
Head Coach
Donald Cooper says a 10.1 time is possible for Saturday's noting that Fair dipped seven meters short of the finish line Friday and still ran a 12.25.
"The key is not to chase the time, but to execute and finish the race," Cooper said. "Kareem was able to use his quickness today."
Fair wasn't the only Wildcat capitalizing on the fast track. Four other qualifying times for MEAC were posted in the men's 100.
Monae Nichols had the fastest 100 hurdles times,
Quamecha Morrison took the 200 and
Jordan Williams had a 20.97 in his 200 heat, just to name a few.
Cooper also liked what he saw over in the jumps, with four Wildcats, led by JaiQuan Earl (24' 1 ½"), over 23 feet and
Kelton Williams taking the high jump at 6' 6 ¾".
