Class of 2011 Wildcat Dominates Australia's Premier League

July 23, 2018

Glenelg, Australia. - Former Bethune-Cookman University basketball standout Alexander Starling took home the Australia Premier League's Woollacott Medal, MVP, and All-Star Five Award Saturday at the Stamford Grand Adelaide Ballroom.

Starling was a force on the glass for the North Adelaide Rockets. He led the Premier League in offensive (4.1), defensive (9.9), and total rebounds (14.1). The Miami native also led the league with an average of 3.6 steals.

He averaged 22.4 points (fifth in Premier League) and 2.9 assists, while shooting 50.8% from the floor. Starling totaled 30 blocks to rank second.

In addition to his MVP nod, Starting received the league's highest honor, the Woollacott Medal, which is voted on by the league's referees to recognize the "fairest and most brilliant player".

Starling, who suited up for the Wildcats from 2008-11, played in 99 games while averaging 9.3 points and 6.9 rebounds. A three-year starter at BCU, Starling, the program's seventh all-time leading rebounder, played a key role in the Wildcats' rise to their first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference  championship and Division I post-season appearance (NIT) in 2010-11. He was the Wildcats' first Division I player to enjoy a winning record in each of his seasons. In his final home game in 2011, Starling stole an inbound pass and hit a bank shot with two seconds remaining in overtime for an instant classic victory over Florida A&M that secured Bethune-Cookman's first 20-win season since 1976-77.
