PENSACOLA, Fla. – Under the direction of first-year head coach Chelsea Gilliam, Bethune-Cookman Bowling takes to the road for the 2019 FAMU Invitational hosted by Florida A&M in Pensacola, Florida. The three-day event takes places Friday, Jan. 25 through Sunday, Jan. 27.

The Third Annual FAMU Rattlers Invitational gets underway Friday at 10 a.m., with 5x4 Baker games.

In the Baker format, starting members of the competing teams will successively and, in regular order, bowl one frame on one lane. Once five frames are completed, the team members will remain on the same lane and complete the starting member order again, with frames six through 10 being completed. This pattern of play will continue until all 10 frames of a game are completed. No changes can be made in the order of players after the start of a game, except for substitutes, although once a bowler has been pulled from the game they are not allowed to return until the next game.

The teams will then square off on Saturday at 10 a.m., with five traditional games.

In the five-person team game, starting members of the competing teams will successively and, in regular order, bowl one frame on one lane. Once completed, the team members shall move to the alternate lane of the competition pair. This pattern of play continues until all 10 frames of a game are complete. The same substitution rules as Baker will apply.

The FAMU Rattlers Invitational concludes Sunday with a tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m. The tournament, consisting of Best 4-of-7 Baker matches, will determine the champion. The five teams will be seeded based on the performance on Friday and Saturday.

In last year's FAMU Rattlers Invitational, the final day's bracket portion of the tournament saw Bethune-Cookman face Belmont Abbey in the opening game of a Baker style match. The Cats were victorious in their opening contest, using a 4-2 decision en route to the next match in the bracket. BCU next faced Southern (La.), but would fall to the Jaguars in one of the day's most exciting matches, 4-3.

The Maroon and Gold concluded the tournament with a 4-0 defeat to Belmont Abbey.

BCU finished up the weekend sporting a 6-9 record overall.

Bethune-Cookman enters this year's FAMU Rattlers Invitational after competing in just one event thus far on the 2018-19 campaign. BCU took part in the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) event November 10-11, in Wilmington, Delaware hosted by Delaware State.

Upon returning from Pensacola, BCU travels to nearby Orlando, Florida for the Sunshine State Winter Classic taking place February 8-10.
