Box Score BALTIMORE, Md..–A strong comeback attempt ran out of time as Bethune-Cookman dropped a 95-91 decision to Coppin State at the CSU Physical Education Center Monday.
Malik Maitland netted 20 points,
Shawntrez Davis scored a season-best 19 on five three-pointers, and
Cletrell Pope registered his 13
thdouble-double in the setback.

In a game that featured 13 lead changes and eight ties, BCU (8-13, 3-4) amounted a furious comeback. Down by six with 24 seconds, the Wildcats cut the deficit to two and had a look at the lead. However, Maitland's would-be three was short with nine seconds remaining.Â

CSU (4-19, 4-4) took the lead for good with 6:05 on Lamar Morgan's trey, and led by as much as nine with Justin Steers' dunk at 2:15.Â

Both teams found their stride offensively in the second half. BCU was 18-35 (51%) and 6-15 from beyond-the-arc (40%), but CSU found slightly more success with a 16-27 effort (59%) and converted on six of nine triples.

Coppin State made good on 19 of 23 free-throws in the latter half, including makes on its last seven attempts.

Pope, coming off a career night of 24 points and 22 rebounds, scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.
Dondre Duffus scored 16 of his 17 points in the second half.Â

The Eagles were led by Kent Auslander's 18 points.Â

CSU led 38-36 at intermission with 10 from Morgan. The game had five lead changes in opening period, and BCU led by as much as five points.

BCU begins a four-game homestand on Saturday, Feb. 2, against North Carolina Central.Â
