Ford Paces @BCUBowling On Opening Weekend

GLEN BURIE, Md. – Samantha Ford's eighth place individual finish highlighted Bethune-Cookman's opening weekend of the 2019-20 bowling season at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference #1 event at Bowl America.

The sophomore from Daytona Beach averaged 195.8 in her six traditional games, finishing strong with a 211 in her final game.

"It was a very strong performance from Samantha," said BCU Head Coach Chelsea Gilliam. "It's definitely something we can build upon as the season progresses."

Senior Bethany Gray-Shealy, one of two returnees from last year, was 29th with an average of 172.3, followed by freshman Ashley Beckly (34th, 162.8); Shekinah Staten (51st, 102.7) and Faith Calvin (59th, 76.8).

In team competition, BCU complied a 1-9 record, registering its lone win against Norfolk State 801-741 in Baker play. Seeded 10th in bracket play, BCU dropped a 4-1 decision to Morgan State to complete the weekend.

BCU returns to action Friday at the Hornet Classic in Montgomery, Ala., hosted by Alabama State.
