DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --
Isaak Gutierrez sparked Bethune-Cookman to a 3-0 lead before South Florida rallied to tie, then used a pair of tenth-inning home runs to down the Wildcats 7-4 Wednesday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Gutierrez threw five solid innings of shutout ball before the visiting Bulls (8-7) reached him in the sixth. Two-run homers from Joe Genord and Tyler Dietrich broke the 3-3 tie in the extra inning.
Zach Spivey brought home
Joseph Fernando in the tenth with a triple that was his third hit of the day.
Chase DeBonis homered for BCU, now 7-10.
Spivey scored in the first on a wild pitch while
Josten Heron also plated on a third inning wild pitch to account for the other two BCU runs.
Jordan Pinto and Brando Wilkes combined for three and one-third innings of scoreless relief. The loss went to
Carlos Lequerica, now 0-3.
The Wildcats host North Carolina Central in a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series beginning Friday.
