DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University Director of Track and Field
Donald Cooper announced today the signing of two Tampa area student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Michael Hopkins of Tampa Bay Tech and Kendal Sandusky will join the Wildcats for the 2020-21 season. Both are expected to make a contribution in the pole vault and both have been coached by former BCU standout Akeem Barthol, who won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship.
Hopkins owns the  Tampa Bay Tech pole vault record with a 14' 2 ½ recorded this year while Sandusky's cleared 10 ¾" in winning the 2019 3A-9 District Championship.
"I'm very thrilled to bring these two on board," Cooper said. "They both will be immediate contributors to the program athletically and academically."Â
Both BCU teams finished third at the MEAC indoor championships back in February. Junior
Monae Nichols was slated to compete in the NCAA Indoor National Championships before all competition was suspended due to the CORID-19 virus.
