The Wildcats have dropped three straight games, most recently falling to Alabama A&M, 67-52 Monday night in Huntsville, Ala.
Kevin Davis scored 16 and
Joe French added 15 in the loss.
Jonathan Bolden grabbed 8 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
The Wildcats currently sit in ninth place in the SWAC standings, just behind Prairie View A&M, Alabama A&M, and Alabama State. The SWAC tournament will feature the top eight teams in the conference.
Scouting the Panthers
Prairie View A&M is 4-13 this season, and 4-5 in SWAC play. The Panthers have won three of four games – their only loss came by a single point in their last game against Texas Southern.
The Panthers average the second-most points per game in the SWAC at 68.9 per game. They also allow the second most points per game at 80.2 per game. Prairie View A&M is shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from deep this season.
Jawaun Daniels leads the Panthers with 14.2 points per game. He is also the Panthers' top rebounder at 5.1 boards per game.
Scouting the Tigers
Texas Southern sits in fourth place in the SWAC with a 8-10 record including a 6-3 conference record. The Tigers are winners of three straight, most recently edging Prairie View A&M by a point last week.
Texas Southern averages 68 points per game and allows a SWAC-best 66.7 points per game. The Tigers are shooting 42.8 percent from the field and 31 percent from behind the arc. They are allowing opponents a conference-low 40 percent shooting percentage from the field. They are the best rebounding team in the SWAC.
John Walker III is the only Tiger to average in double-digits for scoring at just over 10 points per game. Joirdon Karl Nicholas and PJ Henry each average just over 9 points per game. Brison Gresham leads the Tigers with 7.4 rebounds per game and is third in the SWAC in blocks with 27.
Notes
- Joe French has jumped back into second place in the SWAC in scoring at 15.4 points per game.
- French is also the SWAC's most accurate three-point shooter, shooting over 40 percent from range – he also attempts the second-most three-pointers among SWAC plyers at 2.6.
- Marcus Garrett has steadily become one of the Wildcats go-to scorers, breaking double digits in seven of his last nine games and averaging over 14 points per game since Jan. 5.
- Dylan Robertson has blocked the second-most shots in the SWAC this season with 28.
All-Time Series
Saturday's game will be the third meeting all-time between Prairie View A&M and B-CU. The last time the two teams met, the Wildcats fell to the Panthers, 89-80 on Nov. 29, 2013.
Monday will be the sixth all-time meeting of Texas Southern and Bethune-Cookman. The Tigers hold a 3-2 advantage in the series, but the Wildcats have taken two straight, most recently with a 68-61 victory on November 29, 2009.
