Farmville, Va. - The Brock Challenge continues into day two as Bethune-Cookman takes on the Delaware State Hornets. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as the Wildcats look to bounce back from their tournament-opening loss.

Bethune-Cookman was defeated by the Lamar Cardinals in their first matchup in the Brock Classic. The Wildcats saw their three-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to 3-2 on the season. The Wildcats offense struggled in the first six minutes of the game, scoring only five points on 1/7 shooting and three turnovers. Lamar was able to build an early 15-5 lead with multiple players contributing early. The shooting woes would continue throughout the first half, as BCU finished 6/29 (20.7%) from the field and 2/12 (16.7%) from three. The Wildcats faced a 23-36 halftime deficit. Lamar, who improved to 3-2 on the year, would score the first nine points of the half, adding up to an 11-0 run that began at the end of the first. The Wildcats saw the deficit balloon to 24 points as continued to struggle offensively.  BCU eventually cut the lead to just nine points with 5:02 left in the game following a driving layup by Reggie Ward Jr. But the Cardinals quickly responded with a 9-0 run to effectively close out the game. The Cardinals had a balanced scoring effort, headlined by guard Chris Pryor. He scored 19 points on a perfect 6/6 shooting effort, making four threes to lead the team in scoring. Ja'Sean Jackson contributed 15 points on 5/8 shooting (3/4 from three). Lamar was the far superior rebounding team as they outrebounded the Wildcats 49-22 whlie picking up 17 second chance points. Terry Anderson led the Cardinals in rebounding with 11, finishing one point shy of a double-double. The Wildcats were able to convert 22 points off of 22 Lamar turnovers. Reggie Ward Jr. finished with a team-leading four steals, while Zion Harmon, Dhashon Dyson, and Seneca Willoughby picked up two a piece. Ward Jr. was a bright spot in an otherwise rough night on offense. He picked up 16 points on 7/11 shooting, as he has now scored in double figures in four of the first five games. Jakobi Heady poured in 16 points of his own, shooting 50% from the field and leading the Wildcats in rebounds with six.. Zion Harmon had 14 points on just 4/16 shooting.

Scouting the Opponent In-Story Header

Delaware State fell to 1-5 on the season following their loss to Longwood on day one. The Hornets took the Lancers to double overtime, but finally fell 84-82. They have now lost two straight heading into this matchup with the Wildcats.

The Hornets have struggled shooting the basketball so far this season converting on only 38% of their field-goal attempts. They are shooting just 28% from three-point range on only 4.2 attempts per game. Delaware State is allowing opponents to shoot 47% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.

The Hornets' leading scorer is sophomore guard Jevin Munitz. He is averaging just under 16 points on 47/36% shooting splits. Muniz scored 22 in the double-OT effort and now has three 20+ point outings on the year. He is also the team leader in assists.

Delaware State has been a solid rebounding team this year. They are led by senior Alston Andrews who is averaging 7 per game. The Hornets have managed to outrebound their opponents in three of their last four games.


History In-Story Header

As former MEAC rivals, BCU and Delaware State have faced one another on a multitude of occasions. The Hornets lead the all-time series 40-32. However, the Wildcats have prevailed in each of their last four matchups.
