DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman head tennis coach Chris Wollett announced Tuesday the 2024 schedule, featuring strong non-conference opponents in UCF, Georgia Southern, and Stetson, a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) pods, and the conference championships set in New Orleans.
The Wildcats open the spring slate with a tough non-conference schedule beginning with a trip to nearby UCF on Saturday, Jan. 20.
B-CU follows that up with four straight at home, beginning with a match on Sunday, Jan. 21 against a Georgia Southern team that finished the 2022-23 season 19-6 before falling to the Sun Belt's #1 seed Old Dominion in the conference championship game.
Three days later, on Jan. 24, the Wildcats will host another conference championship contender in the Stetson Hatters, who lost in the ASUN Championship game to North Florida a season ago.
"It's a tough schedule right from the start," Wollett said. "One of my goals for the team is to learn something new from each match."
B-CU rounds out its early non-conference slate with a pair of matches on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 1-2, as they host Wofford and Mercer.
"As we get closer to conference play, I want us to find our range by maximizing our strengths and minimizing our weaknesses, Wollett continued."
The Wildcats open conference play on the road as they face Alabama State on Thursday, Feb. 15 in Montgomery, Ala.
The Wildcats will sit tight in Montgomery for the first of two SWAC Pods, set for Friday-Sunday, Feb. 16-18 in Montgomery, as the Wildcats face off with Alcorn State, Prairie View A&M, and Alabama A&M on the campus of Alabama State.
From there, B-CU returns to Daytona Beach for contests with College of Charleston (March 2) and Tennessee State (March 5), before heading to Jackson, Miss. for a standalone SWAC match with Southern.
SWAC Pod #2, hosted by Jackson State, begins Friday, March 8 as the Wildcats face the host Tigers. They follow that up by taking on Mississippi Valley State (March 9) and Grambling State (March 10).
IUPUI visits Daytona or the 2024 home finale on Thursday, March 14, and the Wildcats wrap up the regular season on the road as they face rival Florida A&M on Saturday, March. 30 in Tallahassee.
"With the addition of the new players, I'm excited to see what the team can do this season especially focusing on the doubles point," Wollett said.
The 2024 SWAC Tennis Championships will be hosted at the Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans, La. They are set to begin on Friday, April. 19, with the championship match scheduled for Sunday, April 21.
