DeLAND, Fla. – Head Coach
Chris Wollett will take four Wildcats to nearby DeLand this weekend as Bethune-Cookman Women's Tennis is set to compete in the Stetson Invite #1 hosted by the Stetson Hatters at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The two-day event begins Friday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m.
Competing in this year's Stetson Invite #1 for Bethune-Cookman will be the same four student-athletes from last weekend's HBCU National Championships in Atlanta.
"We're excited to compete at the Stetson Invite this weekend," said Wollett. "It's always a great tournament with strong competition, and it gives our players valuable match experience as we continue to develop our game."
Zahara El-Zein, a sophomore from Harare, Zimbabwe, will join junior
Jalayah Shaw in doubles play. Both will also compete in singles play for the Wildcats after El-Zein captured a 2-2 weekend overall in Atlanta, advancing to the Flight A consolation finals.
In the other doubles action for the Wildcats will be newcomers
Madison Molock and
Taylor O'Neal.
Last weekend as a duo, Molock and O'Neal defeated Claudia Mudasanu and Taylor Ellis of Tennessee State in Flight B action.
"We weren't able to practice heading into the HBCU Nationals, but this past week we were able to get a little more time on the courts," continued Wollett. "They've been working hard in practice, and we're looking forward to seeing how that translates on the court this weekend. Tournaments like this at a great facility like Mandy Stoll Tennis Center are important for our growth as a program during the fall season, and we're ready to go out there and compete at our highest level."
