DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Under the direction of
Garon Jackson, Bethune-Cookman Track & Field unveiled its 2024-25 indoor and outdoor schedule(s) Monday afternoon as the Wildcats will compete in more than 15 events across the winter and spring slate, respectively.
Â
For the indoor season, Bethune-Cookman is set to participate in eight events, including the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
Â
"We've put together a competitive schedule, and it's one that is going to challenge us in all areas," said
Garon Jackson, Bethune-Cookman Director of Track & Field.
Â
The Wildcats' indoor season launches December 6 with the Birmingham Invite in Birmingham, Alabama. The new calendar year begins with a January 11 visit to the Gamecock Opener in Columbia, South Carolina.
Â
The following weekend, the Cats travel to Gainesville, Florida, for the first of three meets in Alachua County – the first being the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on January 17. The other two Gainesville races include the RADD Sports Invitational (Jan. 24-25) and Celebration Pointe Classic (Feb. 7), respectfully.
Â
The SWAC Indoor Championships will run February 22-23. Meanwhile, the NCAA Indoor Championships are scheduled for March 13-14 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Â
"I like the fact we can stay in state and travel to South Carolina, which isn't that far of a drive, and face some of the best teams on the east coast," continued Jackson. "There are so many great programs here in the state of Florida with great facilities, and we are fortunate to take advantage of the proximity to this level of competition and events each year."
Â
The outdoor season begins March 1 with the Savannah State Relays, continuing with a challenging schedule of regional and national-level invitationals. Other noteworthy competitions within the "Sunshine State" include the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville (March 7-8), UCF Open in Orlando (March 21-22), and the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables (March 28-29).
Â
Once again, Bethune-Cookman will join in the Embry-Riddle Classic in Daytona Beach, as the Eagles host the annual event April 3-5.
Â
"It's important for us to have an event at home, without an event at home – so to speak," added Jackson. "Embry-Riddle does a phenomenal job each year hoisting the ERAU Classic, and we enjoy being able to enjoy the comforts of Daytona Beach while also being a part of a wonderful event."
Â
The Cats travel to the South Carolina State Open in Columbia, South Carolina, on April 19, facing off against a former longtime Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe.
Â
Championship opportunities for the outdoor season include the SWAC Outdoor Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from May 11-13 and the pinnacle NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, scheduled for June 11-14.
Â
All competitions are scheduled with 9 a.m. Eastern start times, subject to potential modifications.
