BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Indoor Track season concludes this weekend as the Wildcats get set for the 2024 SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, set to be hosted at the Birmingham Crossplex on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18.
The Wildcats wrapped up the indoor regular season with strong performances at the Florida Collegiate Invitational last weekend at the Alachua County Events Center.
Graduate student
Kimani Richards enjoyed an excellent weekend, posting a third-place finish with a 1.95m in the high jump. Elsewhere, he also finished sixth in the 60m hurdles, running a 8.54. He also posted a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a 6.47. He was named SWAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts.
Montrael Bennet posted a top-five finish in the 200m, running a 22.27. Teammate Shanard Walker finished third in the 400m with a 48.99.
Tyler Washington was excellent again in the shot put, finishing second in the event with a 14.09m.
For the women, posted a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a 13.46m, her best second-best mark of the season in the event.
Angel Parks finished sixth in the 60m hurdles, running a 9.37. Ktyal Price turned in another top-five finish in the high jump with a 1.60m.
Tatiana Elliott turned in a top-ten finish in the shot put with a 10.81m.
The world-class Birmingham Crossplex facility boasts a six lane oval hydraulic track and eight-60 meter lanes for sprint/hurdle events. The facility also features a 50-meter indoor Olympic swimming pool. The hydraulic track features a Mondotrack surface and is one of only six in the United States and one of eight world-wide. The state of the art six lane oval track takes just ten minutes to raise or lower for banked corners. There are dual horizontal runways for pole vault, long jump and triple jump. Additionally, dual high jump approaches can be configured along with dual throwing sectors for shot-put located outside the oval.
The event will be streamed live on Sunday, February 18 starting at 1:00 pm EST
Alabama State's Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field teams claimed titles in 2023. B-CU took home three individual first-place finishes in the event in 2023.
Saturday will begin with hurdles and beginning 9:30am EST. Track events begin at 1 p.m. EST. Field events take place Sunday, beginning at 2 pm.
