DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Andrew Kiplagat and
Valencia Butler of B-CU Cross Country have been named Wildcats of the Week for the week of October 6-12.
Valencia Butler, a senior from Augusta, Georgia, recorded a new season and personal-best time of 19:17.4 in the 5K race as the Wildcats wrapped up the regular season at the 18th Annual Sand Shark Invitational in South Carolina. Her time was good for a 17th-place finish as the B-CU women finished sixth in the event out of 13 teams with 143 points.
Andrew Kiplagat, a junior from Chebara, Kenya, turned in his third school-record setting time of the season with a mark of 23:49.9 - that bested his previous record by 18 seconds. That was good enough for second place finish at the event.
Each week, The Bethune-Cookman Office of Athletic Communications recognizes one male and one female student-athlete through the Wildcats of the Week award.
This award recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in competition, in the classroom, and in the community over the past week, exemplifying the Championship Culture of Wildcat Athletics.
