BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman graduate transfer
Doctor Bradley was named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year announced Wednesday afternoon at SWAC Men's Basketball Media Day held inside Embassy Suites in Birmingham, Alabama.
Â
For Bethune-Cookman,
Daniel Rouzan and
Doctor Bradley were named to the Preseason All-SWAC First Team, while
Seneca Willoughby was tabbed a second team selection.
Â
As a team, Bethune-Cookman was voted to finish first in the preseason poll with 12 of a possible 22 first place votes – the first time B-CU has attained a first place preseason ranking since 2018 as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Following the Wildcats to round out the top three preseason favorites are Southern (La.) and Jackson State, respectively.
Â
"Being the preseason number one is great, and it shows what others around the league feel about what we've brought in, and the program you're building here in Daytona Beach," expressed Athletic Director and Head Coach
Reggie Theus. "However, with great expectations comes great responsibility to live up to the hype put upon you."
Â
Bradley, a graduate transfer from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, finished last season ranked 15th in the league in scoring after pouring in 353 points (19.6 ppg), as well as pulling down 171 rebounds (9.5 rpg) and handing out 81 assists with 51 steals and 18 blocks on the defensive end of the court. The Los Angeles, California native posted those numbers despite playing just 18 games on the campaign for the Golden Lions, leading the squad in four categories altogether.
Â
"Doctor [Bradley] is a dynamic playmaker," said Theus. "He could have easily been either Offensive or Defensive Player of the Year with the athleticism he possesses in his game. We are excited to see what he can bring to the team."
Â
Joining Bradley on the preseason first team is
Daniel Rouzan, a senior forward from Las Vegas, Nevada. Rouzan ended the 2024-25 campaign second on the Maroon and Gold for blocks (26), while turning in a team second-most 388 points (11.8 ppg) and tied atop the team lead for rebounds with 181 (5.5 rpg), matching
Reggie Ward Jr. in that department. Rouzan shot 55.6 percent from the floor as well in his first season after transferring in from Manhattan.
Â
Seneca Willoughby was voted to the Preseason All-SWAC Second Team after finishing last season atop the SWAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4) and placing himself seventh in the league in total assists with 95 (3.0 per game). Willoughby also shot 38.6 percent from the floor, adding a 35 percent clip from beyond the arc. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native totaled 156 points from his point guard position on the court.
Â
"We have a chance to do something special here this season, and do something that's never been done before," continued Theus. "It's going to be a lot of hard work, but the team is focused and ready for the challenge. This could be a fun group to coach."
Â
The Cats open the regular season Monday, Oct. 3, at Auburn with a tipoff time to be announced at a later date.
