JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - The Bethune Cookman University Track and Field team competed in Jacksonville Florida for the first outdoor event of the season.
The men's team was lead by the javelin throwers who landed the top 3 spots. Two freshmen lead the way and started out strong for the Wildcats with Nehemiah Armstrong placing first in the event followed by Micheal Walker placing second. Walker also finished 4th in the discus throw. Junior Jordan Riche placed 3rd in the hammer throw, followed by Luis Castenada finishing 4th. Castaneda also grabbed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.91m. In the shot put, William Rothmiller and Tyler Washington finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Rothmiller also finished 3rd in the discus throw. Rounding out the men's field events was Jabari Armant with a second place finish in the pole vault.
Freshman Jancent Wallace started strong in the 200m with a 2nd place finish and a time of 21.62. Shanard Walker placed 3rd in the 400m with a PR of 47.82. Marc Delcy led the 800m group with a 1:55.19 time for a 10th place finish. Ryan Longmire had a strong finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:03.
On the women's side, the field events were the shining moments for the Cats. Junior Kasie Ugeh placed 1st in the javelin throw and 2nd in the discus throw, and freshman Riana Wilford had a first place finish in the pole vault. Camille Armstrong also took home a 3rd place finish in the discus throw.
The track event was led by Zion Harvey with a 1st place finish in the 400m and a PR of 56.21. Closely following was Valencia Butler with a 5th place finish and a time of 58.63.
"We had a pretty good first meet, and this gave the coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate and tune up some events areas before we get deep into the outdoor season", says Jackson. Building a team is a process and the focus will always to put the athletes in the best situation possible."

MEN TOP TEN FINISHERS
Ethan Sharpe finished eighth in the men's 200m with a time of 22:44.
Sytrevion Dyer finished ninth in the men's 200m with a time of 22:60.
De'Quon King finished tenth in the men's 200m with a time of 22:70.
Montreal Bennett finished ninth in the men's 400m with a time of 49.04
Michael Latham finished second in the men's 110 hurdles with a 15:41 time.
Elijah Kellum finished fourth in the men's long jump with 6.65m.
Micheal Walker finished fifth in the men's shot put with 11.32m. He also finished fourth in the discus with 41.35m.
Anton Holland finished fifth in the discus with 30.29m.
Anton Holland finished fifth in the men's hammer throw with 40.83m.
Cleveland Parker III finished third in the men's javelin with 41.92m.
WOMEN TOP TEN FINISHERS
Amariay Waring finished 6th in the women's 200m with a time of 25:44. She also finished 8th in the women's 400m with a time of 1:00.94.
Zion Harvey finished 7th in the women's 200m with a time of 25:46.
Haely Grant finished 8th in the women's 200m with a time of 25.80.
Alyssa Williams finished 9th in the women's 200m with a time of 25.93. She also grabbed 11th in the women's 800m with a time of 2:27.36.
Valencia Butler finished 5th in the women's 400m with a time of 58:63. She also finished 9th in the women's 1500m with a time of 5:13.45.
A'lasia Mosley finished 10th in the women's 400m with a time of 1:01.83.
LaNeeyah Garrison finished 3rd in the women's high jump with 1.50m. She also grabbed 5th in the women's triple jump with 11.34m.
Jamelia Simmons finished 4th in the women's long jump with 5.32m.
Brianna Harper finished 5th in the women's long jump with 5.25m.
Lauren Johnson finished 6th in the women's triple jump with 11.22m.
Mychala Parker finished 4th in the women's shot put with 10.81m. She also finished 5th in the women's discus with 34.72m.
Camille Armstrong finished 5th in the women's shot put with 10.73. She also finished 4th in the women's hammer throw with 37.99m.
Izabell Mosley finished 3rd in the women's hammer throw with 38.21m.
