DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The diamond sports have entered SWAC play strong. Softball opened up perfect in their first series and continued their unbeaten streak at home against Alabama State. Baseball hosted Prairie View A&M and handled business for a sweep. Two of the standout Wildcats,
Janel Morrisey and
Maikol Lucena, have been named Wildcats of the Week for the week of March 9-March 16.
Janel Morrisey was one of a few standout softball Wildcats this past week. In the team's second SWAC series sweep, the Freshman had five hits, adding her sixth during the midweek against UNF, contributing four RBI's. She stole two bases and was never caught stealing against Alabama State. Defensively, she has been reliable at short stop, recording six put outs and not recording an error in two of the three games on the weekend.
Maikol Lucena was excellent for the Wildcats as they swept through four games, including a sweep of their SWAC-opening series against Prairie View A&M. On the week, Lucena extended his hit streak to five games with seven hits in 16 at-bats, along with four RBI, a double, and a steal.
Each week, the Bethune-Cookman Office of Athletic Communications recognizes one male and one female student-athlete through the Wildcats of the Week award.
This award recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in competition, in the classroom, and in the community over the past week, exemplifying the Championship Culture of Wildcat Athletics.
